The Braves head to Elmwood July 31 to play Spring Valley in the first round of the newly created St. Croix Valley Baseball League Conference tournament. The big news of the week - the Braves snagged the sixth playoff spot in the SCVBL thanks to some big wins against New Richmond and Bay City and some good fortune from the baseball gods. The Braves will play at home on Aug, 13 at 7:30pm versus a team TBA to open the WBA playoffs. Playoff pairings will be announced next week.
Our secret Mississippi Valley League spy reported in (finally). Viroqua is currently in first place and sounds like Chaseburg Coon Valley, Holmen (new team) and Sparta are all close behind with a few games left in the regular season.
7 - Rumor has it that the River Falls Fish would like to repeat and then repeat five more times to get a total of 7 straight championships - matching the uniform number of Fish mastermind - J.E. It's impossible, right? 7 straight? Never could happen. Ever. Well...they did meat raffle their way to building a $2 million dollar stadium, so you never know.
Up north - Brill has a big game in Hayward and Spooner has a big game versus the Haugen Knights this weekend.
WBA Tournament mastermind Chris LaBreche has gone underground in preparation for the upcoming seeding meeting. He's not taking my calls, texts or responding to email - which only means one thing - the WBA playoffs are around the corner and everyone goes underground until late August - groundhog like. This is (sarcasm) for the uniformed. Frenchy and his musical stylings might be heard in Osceola during the playoffs or perhaps he'll take his music playlist of velvet underground hits up to Hayward.
